Spotlight on Sri Lanka
2019 was Sri Lanka’s year.
Until the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, this diverse island in the Indian Ocean was having its best year to date. Natural beauty, cultural richness and historical treasures met a growth in new infrastructure, hotels, and transportation; a perfect combination leading Sri Lanka to the honour of being voted number one destination to visit in 2019, by Lonely Planet.
With the tragedies of 21st April 2019, global governments advised their citizens not to visit meaning a sudden downturn in tourism for a country that relies heavily on it.
But as time moves on and governments, including the British Foreign Office (FCO) relax or recall their warnings against travel to Sri Lanka, it’s time to look to this teardrop island once more.
If you’re planning to visit but are unsure which part(s) of the country to see, we’ve complied lots of useful information below including - 16 of the country’s most impressive cities, landmarks and monuments, Insider’s Guides to Colombo and Galle, how to spend 24 hours in Colombo, 5* Sri Lankan experiences, Sri Lanka’s south coast with children, pilates retreats, and guides to Sri Lanka’s food and drink.
