A BIT ABOUT OUR INSIDER:

Name: Matt Renouf
Place of birth: Southampton, UK
Occupation: Chartered Accountant
Hobbies and interests: Crossfit, Music Concerts (particularly soul and blues), reading.
How long have you lived in Melbourne? Nearly three years.

A BIT ABOUT MELBOURNE:

How do you best navigate your city?
I don’t own a car so I use public transport; it's pretty easy for tourists to get to grips with too. Trains are quickest but if you are not near a train station, trams are also very accessible. I also use Uber a lot.

What do you think Melbourne does better than other cities?
Well firstly, it has the best coffee in the world, coupled with an amazing restaurant, bar and coffee culture. It's great for relaxing, socialising and hanging out with friends. Touchwood & Mayday in Richmond, Saint Ali in Port Melbourne and Patricia's in the Central Business District are some of my favourites.

Where is your favourite view of the city?
This is one of my favourite photos I’ve taken of the city, standing at South Yarra. I love spending time at Yarra Bend Park.

Where is your favourite respite from hectic city life?
Just an hour from Melbourne's city centre you'll reach The Mornington Peninsula. Here you'll fine stunning coastlines, seaside towns and enjoy local wineries and impressive restaurants. You can forget all about the bustle of city life for a while.

What is your favourite place for a workout?
CrossFit - I've been a member at CrossFit Richmond since I moved to melbourne. It's a great way to meet new, like-minded people. We welcome Crossfitters from around the world with a drop in option for AUS$25, or you you can buy a T-shirt. Visiting CrossFitters can email info@crossfitrichmond.com to get in touch with Kath or Adam (the owners).

Any etiquette tips for visitors?
The culture in Melbourne is all about socializing - put your phone away.

Where would you stay if you were visiting, and why?
In the city centre (known to locals as the CBD). All the suburbs are accessible from there.

TELL US ABOUT THE FOOD SCENE:

Which dish is a must-try?
Burgers, Melbourne has really good burger joints. OnIt on Victoria Street is my favourite.

Where is your favourite local spot to eat?
Melbourne also does excellent brunches. My favourite brunch spot is Touchwood, Richmond.

Which restaurant has the best atmosphere?
Touchwood, Richmond.

Where serves the best value for money dining options?
I Love Dumplings, Richmond.

Where is the best place to splurge on a delicious meal?
Jims Greek Tavern, Collingwood.

NOW, ONTO THE NIGHTLIFE:

Which bar is best value for money in Melbourne's?
Nowhere, alcohol is expensive!

And which has your favourite atmosphere?
Garden State Hotel, CBD.

Best late night spot?
Public House/Royal Saxon, Richmond.

FOR CULTURE VULTURES:

Where is your favourite local gallery?
I'm more into music than art so I'd opt for The Teskey Brothers, and their old school Motown sounds that can be found at Fulton Street.

Gallery, garden, music hall or anything else. Which cultural haven must visitors not miss?
I enjoy relaxing in Richmond's Botanical Gardens - as pictured above.

FINAL WORDS:

Can you sum up why you love living in this city?
It's a big city, with a small town feel. Laid back, socializing culture with fanstastic sports, café, restaurant and bar culture. Everyone who lives in Melbourne, protrudes happiness about doing so.
